Students from three universities engage in protests

Students from three universities engaged in three separate protests on Sept. 3.

The students union of the Ruhunu University engaged in the protest in front of the university.

The protest was staged calling for the release of a Sabaragamuwa University student who is being detained by the Terrorism Investigation Department.

Vehicular movement along the Tangalle-Matara main road was obstructed by to this protest. The protest march commenced at the campus and proceeded to the Tangalle Matara main road.

A tense situation arose after the Matara police arrived at the scene

Meanwhile, the student union of the Rajarata University also engaged in a protest infront of their university. The protest was staged calling for the release of several Sabaragamuwa and Peradeniya university students who are imprisoned.

The students union of the Sabaragamuwa University engaged in a Sathyagraha for the second consecutive day on Sept. 3 to protest the prohibition of the union and four faculty unions.

The Sathyagraha was carried out at the Pabahinna junction on the Badulla-Colombo road.
