The Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra convoys carrying much-needed aid for more than two million drought affected people in 14 districts have reached their destinations and have commenced the distribution of aid.
The three aid convoys departed from the MTV/MBC Head Office at Braybrooke Place, Colombo 2, and made their way to Kilinochchi, Ampara and Polonnaruwa, on Sunday.
The aid convoys were met with a warm response from the public who lined either side of the three routes and contributed more aid to the convoys. The Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra convoy which made its way along the Negombo Road and then onto Puttalam and Anuradhapura, reached Killinochchi, at about 4 a.m. on Monday morning.
The convoy which made its way along the Colombo – Kandy road and then onto Kurunegala, reached Polonnaruwa at about midnight Sunday. Thereafter the convoy that traveled en route to Ampara reached its destination on Monday afternoon.
Aid packages are being distributed from these convoys at the moment.
