Tensions flared at the monthly meeting of the Bope – Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha on Tuesday. A tense situation arose following protests by two members of the Pradeshiya Sabha.
Ruling party member of the Bope – Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha, Premalal Abeysekera and the Opposition Leader of the Council, Mohammed Rishad, expressed their protest by climbing onto the table.
The two members, climbed onto the table at the centre of the council meeting and demanded that unauthorised constructions at the Labuduwa Market Complex be removed and that the three year long water shortage in the Araliyawaththa area be resolved.
The two members remained on top of the council table until the meeting was adjourned.
