Reconstruction work to commence in Aluthgama and Beruwala

Repair work began on buildings which were subject to structural damage following the unrest that erupted in Dharga Town, Aluthgama and Beruwala.

The reconstruction work got underway under the aegis of the Major General Ubhaya Medawala the Commander of Security Forces Headquarters – West .

Reconstruction work on building which were damaged in Aluthgama and Beruwala will be carried out by the armed forces. Major General Ubhaya Madewela said the reconstruction work is scheduled to conclude within a month.

The construction work commissioned with the participation of 780 security personnel to the tune of Rs.200 million will get underway with the personnel functioning as a separate regiment.

Major General Ubhaya Medawala said that the repair work will be inspected by the Army Engineering Corps.

Meanwhile, at an event held on Thursday evening in Beruwala with the participation of a group including Major General Ubhaya Medawala, Minister Rajitha Senaratne, the SLFP’s Chief Organiser in Beruwala, sought a pardon for the unrest that broke out in the area.

Minister Rajitha Senaratne said:

[quote]We are saddened by the situation that you had to face, we weep from our hearts. It is more painful for me because were were able to maintain the dignity of this electorate over the past years. I felt as if I was able to create a beautiful glass object over some time and it was destroyed by some unruly people…[/quote]
