The lead actor in the award-winning biographical film Sri Siddhartha Gautama, Gagan Malik, embraced Buddhism at a special ceremony held at the Mihintale sacred grounds on Thursday.

Gagan Malik who arrived at the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya on Thursday evening, first paid homage to Lord Buddha.

Gagan Malik then visited the relic chamber where Venerable Kotapala Amarakeerthi Thera invoked blessings on him.

The Maha Sangha then chanted Pirith to invoke blessings on Gagan Malik following which Venerable Valavaahangunuwewe Dhammarathana Thera placed the relic casket on his head and blessed him.

Chief Incumbent of Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Valavahangunuwewe Dhammarathana Thera shared these views:
We believe that it is a special occasion today because a popular artiste from the Bharath nation from where the teachings of Lord Buddha spread, has thought about the principles of Panchaseela and has decided to embrace the teachings of Lord Buddha. Our artiste Gagan Malik has today come into the Buddhist world and has shined a light on the Sasana. He has embraced the dhamma with a good understanding of it. We bless him for a good future
Meanwhile, the film Sri Siddhartha Gautama was screened at the Mihintale sacred grounds on Thursday.
