President Rajapaksa calls for certified prices for fish

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to formulate a program to provide a certified price for fish.

The Presidential Media Unit said that the president instructed officials to reach a decision in this regard after discussing the matter with the fishing community, the Ministry of Fisheries and the Treasury.

President Rajapaksa gave instructions at a meeting held at Temple Trees on Friday evening.

The president said that by providing a certified price for fish, a number of problems faced by fishermen can be solved.

Also speaking at the meeting, subject minister Rajitha Senaratne said that certain fishermen engage in fishing by exploding dynamite in deep waters.

President Rajapaksa had said to bring the matter to the attention of the Inspector General of Police and apprehend those who engage in such activities.
