Several relatives of missing persons engaged in a demonstration opposite the Mullaitivu District Secretariat on Thursday.

The demonstration was organised by the Tamil National Alliance and the Tamil National People’s Front.

Meanwhile, another protest was staged in close proximity against this demonstration.

The demonstration organized by the TNA and the Tamil National People’s Front commenced at 9 a.m. Thursday.

The protesters called on authorities to find their missing loves ones.

The demonstrators also requested that the habeas corpus filed by 12 relatives of missing persons at the Mullaithivu District Court be expedited.

They displayed placards bearing the phrases “Expedite the legal process on missing persons” and “Where are the loved ones who were handed over to the Army?”

Meanwhile, another demonstration was organized inclose proximity against the this demonstration.

These demonstrators said that there is no link between the Army and the missing persons.

A group of demonstrators also protested against Northern Provincial Councilor Anandhi Sasidharan.

They urged that their children, who were abducted and arrested by the LTTE, be found.

A tense situation arose when TNA MP Suresh Premachandra arrived at the scene of the second demonstration.
