The Army says that investigations have commenced into the shooting of Major Saman Baalasooriya, assistant director of the Disaster Management Centre in Maavarala, Matara.
Army Media Director Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said that the military police have commenced investigations.
He said that the shooting took place at around 6.45 p.m. Saturday, when Major Saman Baalasooriya was travelling to a land he owned in Urubokka for a personal matter.
He also said that he was shot by a trap gun.
He was admitted to the Maavarala Hospital with injuries and then transferred to Matara Hospital.
The police said that Major Saman Baalasooriya was injured on both arms as a result of the shooting.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that investigations into the incident have commenced.
