Addressing a SLFP media briefing on Thursday, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva noted that Sri Lanka only deals with the Indian Central Government .
Here are the views he expressed at the media briefing;
“As far as the Central Government is concerned, there is a strong Central Government in India which we welcome most. But in the upper house, the ruling party has no clear majority. So the ruling party will have to depend on some of the regional parties if they are to get through legislation in the Lok Sabha. Apart from that, as far as the foreign policy and other matters are concerned, there is a strong government in India. So, that government cannot be influenced by the regional parties to the extent in which they influenced in the previous regime.”
He added; “If there is an ethnic issue in Sri Lanka, that is a matter for the Sri Lankan Government. It is an internal issue. We have always said we would respect the various ideas expressed by the foreign countries and neighbours but it is a matter for the Sri Lankans – for us – to resolve the problem. So, what ever the internal problem in India we are not going to interfere…. we are not interested on that.”
Question: Are we dealing only with the Central Government?
Answer: Of course, Of course. We are dealing only with the Central Government.
