The first leg of the quarter finals of Super Fighter, Sri Lanka’s first reality sports TV programme, commenced on Thursday in a boxing ring of international standards built in the Galle Fort. This is incidentally the first time in Sri Lankan sporting history that a boxing match of this nature is being held at such a location.
The first leg of quarter final fights of Super Fighter, which is a a joint initiative of News1st, MTV and MBC and MAS Holdings, saw the participation of 32 contenders competing under four weight classes.
While the contenders were provided with in-house training over the past two weeks, the second leg of quarter final fights are scheduled to be held at the Samanala Grounds in Galle on Saturday. Viewers and fans could select 16 of their favourite contenders for the semi finals of Super Fighter through SMS voting. The relevant numbers assigned to each contender will be announced in the near future.
Meanwhile, a musical show where the seven finalists of Sirasa Super Star are scheduled to perform will be staged at the Samanala Grounds in Galle in line with the semi finals of Super Fighter on Saturday.
This is also the first time sports and music is being collaborated on the same stage.
