Maithripala says UNP’s No Confidence Motion against the govt has backfired

General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Minister Maithripala Sirisena addressing a media briefing on Thursday said that the No-confidence motion moved in Parliament by the United National Party has backfired.

The opposition moved a No-Confidence Motion in Parliament. I believe that after the vote on the No-Confidence Motion, the people were able to reach a decision. This move backfired on the opposition.

None of their expectations were fulfilled, the two thirds majority of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government was once again reaffirmed by 151 MPs. Obtaining 151 votes was a strong answer to the opposition and the other forces who are against the government. This shows how strong the government is within Parliament ….”
