Sarath Fonseka says that he has never proposed himself as being the most ideal common candidate for a presidential poll.
The Leader of the Democratic Party made this statement at a media briefing convened at the party headquarters on Friday to make clarifications on a report published in a weekend newspaper.
I did not propose that I was the best person to be a common candidate. I wish to state before the people, that I made no such statement. I did not make such a power-hungry and selfish statement. We have always been and always will be of the stance that the ideal candidate should be proposed for the candidacy. I am of the position that an individual with talent, commitment, love for the country, feeling for the people and vision, should be proposed for the candidacy,
said Sarath Fonseka.
