Five Indian Navy personnel were arrested on Sunday morning for allegedly molesting a 25-year-old woman and assaulting her husband at a bar in Bandra.

The accused were drunk when they allegedly harassed and molested the woman, who was at the bar with her husband and two friends when the incident took place, on Saturday night.

The accused were arrested while later chasing down the victim and her husband on two auto-rickshaws in the wee hours of Sunday. Police said that at first, one of the five accused passed a lewd comment at the woman on Saturday night. When her husband objected, the five men manhandled the victim, her husband and friends. The victim is a banker and her husband is a businessman.

At that time, bouncers intervened and threw out the accused. However, they waited outside, and when the couple left the bar, they against had an altercation with them. The bouncers at the bar intervened again and separated them.

On seeing this, the couple reportedly took an auto-rickshaw to Borivali and the accused, who are said to be working in the electronics department of the naval dockyard here, took two auto-rickshaws and chased the couple.

The accused – identified as Tirthnath Dilipnath (25), Ashish Jaikisan (29), Maheshwar Singh (26), Chandan Mishra (26) and Shyam Bhandare (29) – were arrested while they were in pursuit of the couple. A Navy official said the accused were not “uniformed personnel” of the force.
