Three-year-old in Kataragama house fire – victim of a dispute? (Video)

The number of people who have died as a result of a house in Kandasuridugama in Rajamawatha, Kataragama being set on fire had risen to four. Police say that the latest victim was a three-year-old girl who sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. It is learnt that she succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning.

The police say that the owner of the house had attacked his wife with a sharp weapon and had then set fire to his wife and their home.

The police who arrived at the location at about 9:20 Sunday night after receiving information of a fire at a house, had put out the blaze with the assistance of residents. Police say that the suspect, his wife, daughter and mother-in-law were killed in the fire.

The wife’s thirty-three-year-old sister and seventy-six-year old father, who were also injured in the fire are receiving treatment in hospital..

Police say they are being treated at the Hambantota and Kataragama hospitals respectively. The magisterial inquest was conducted on Monday morning by the Tissamaharama Magistrate.

Police say that the bodies were taken to the Hambantota Hospital for the post-mortem examinations.
