Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, Anura Kumara Dissanayake questioned as to why authorities are hesitant in punishing those involved in the drug trade.
He made this statement while addressing a seminar on the Our vision policy manifesto in Ambalantota on Saturday.
JVP Leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed the following views;
“Large hauls of drugs are frequently seized at the harbour. Container loads of ethanol are seized. But no one is arrested. Was any one punished? The country’s police has a good sense. The police has been able to solve all murders and crimes in the country that were controversial. There is a simple truth to this. All underhand dealings have been committed by the government. Sirasa was bombed twice but no one was captured. Siyatha was attacked but no one was captured. This was all done by the government. Eleven journalists including Lasantha Wickremetunga were murdered. Again no suspects were found. It was committed by the government. Poddala Jayantha was kidnapped. Around twenty journalists including Upali Tennekoon’s had their arms or legs broken. Sometimes, both arms and legs were broken and yet no suspect was found Why? Because it was done by the government. What has happened to the government today? The only successful hub they have been able to create in Sri Lanka is a hub for drugs and ethanol ..”
