A detainee of the Mahara Prison staged a protest on Saturday afternoon by climbing on top of a roof.
Prisons Commissioner General Chandraratana Pallegama said that the detainee staged a protest as their remains a shortage in providing water in the prison.
He added that restrictions were imposed on providing water for the detainees at the prison as water levels in the wells of the prison had reduced owing to dry weather conditions.
However, the Prisons Commissioner said that the detainee was brought back to the ground following discussions.
