Thirty three students have been suspended from attending lectures at the Peradeniya University.
The Disciplinarian at the University Dr Ashoka Dangolla stated that the suspended group of students comprises eight third year students and twenty five second year students.
It has been revealed that eight out of the twenty five suspended second year students included females. These students were suspended due to alleged disciplinary issues involving new entrants to the university.
Dr. Dangolla stated that the eight of the students suspended from third year lectures were immediately removed from the premises following complaints received regarding their indisciplined conduct.
He added that parents of the 25 students suspended from second year lectures have been asked to take their children away from the premises.
Disciplinarian Dr. Ashoka Dangolla added that steps will be taken in the future, subsequent to a disciplinary inquiry due to be conducted among the students who have been thus suspended.
