The Department of Animal Production and Health says that the transportation of hoofed animals have been halted in seven districts due to the spread of the foot and mouth disease.
Director General of the Department Dr. Kumara De Silva said that the transportation of meat of hoofed animals such as mutton and beef, as well as dung, within these districts have also been halted.
The Director General said that the ban has been implemented in Ampara, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Puttalam and Jaffna.
He noted further that the department is considering enforcing the ban also in the Polonnaruwa District.
