Speaking at a meeting held in Kandana on Saturday, Former Minister Imthiaz Bakeer Markar expressed the following views.

“I have been evicted from the party’s working committee. I have been evicted from the position of Vice Chairman of the United National Party. But at this occasion, I wish to remind you that no one can remove me from the principles of this party that I am bound to. I learnt the ABCs of the UNP with my father.”

He further added,

“Some media institutions say “Your Life Our News.” But if the reality of your lives is told, then what fate befalls journalists the next day? What happened to Lasantha Wickrematunge? What happened to Upali Tennekoon? What happened to Poddala Jayantha? How did they attack the Sunday Leader? How did they attack Sirasa? Why has this situation prevailed for so long? It is because we have not carried out our responsibilities.”
