The eighteenth anniversary of the terrorist attack against the Central Bank of Sri Lanka was marked on Friday.
An event was held in remembrance of victims who died and were injured in the attack that took place on January 31, 1996. Forty one members of the Central Bank died in the terrorist attack while 28 individuals were permanently maimed.
Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor – Central Bank expressed the following views:
“.. when the Central Bank was destroyed in a bomb attack, no outsiders came to aid us. no one came from abroad and said that we will be given assistance in any form. However we were able to rebuild ourselves. If we were able to rebuild back then, i firmly believe that Sri Lanka has the courage, intelligence and capability to develop this country and raise it to a high standard..”
Meanwhile a group staged a protest on Friday condemning the terrorist attack on the Central Bank ..
