Senior Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama says that the biggest challenge facing the public service in the South Asia region is poverty.
Minister Amunugama made this statement at a meeting held in Colombo on Friday morning.
Dr. Amunugama was the keynote speaker at the third meeting of the Chiefs of Public and Civil Service Commissions of SAARC member nations which commenced in Colombo on Friday.
He said; “We need to refine constantly, the performance. We have to go by performance, results and not procedures. The time has come when we must learn from the private sector, that what matters are the results. We cannot afford to delay. Because it is through these results that the vast number of poor in our region can be brought out of poverty. And that is the biggest challenge that we have in the public service.”
