The Colombo High Court on Thursday issued a warrant on Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sampath Vidanapathirana, for not appearing before court for the murder trial of a British national and sexually assaulting his girlfriend.
The order was made when 5 suspects in connection with the case were produced before court relating to the bail applications.
There, Colombo High Court judge, Rohini Walhama questioned as to why the 3rd suspect – the Chairman of the Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha had failed to appear before court.
The attorney representing the suspect noted that the Tangalle PS Chairman is receiving in house treatment at a private hospital.
As the attorney failed to produce a medical certificate to prove his claim, the High Court judge issued notice on the Tangalle PS Chairman.
The case wil be taken up again on the 20th of this month.
