The Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade, Johnston Fernando commented on the possible increase of prices of essential food items, while he was participating at an event held in Polathupitiya, Anuradhapura.
“The public is at unrest because of the fear that prices of essential goods may increase. It has been reported in the media. I will give no room for it to increase. Goods for the festive season have already been supplied.”
He further stated,
“Taxes wont increase as many people are saying it will: neither will the prices of goods be affected. Many people are talking about the increase of the prices of rice. We have the selling price of Samba which is Rs.60-70, and Naadu is Rs 60. A decision was taken during the budget to increase the buying price of paddy.”
