A group including Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella and Minister of Postal Services Jeevan Kumaratunga were present at the occasion.
Deputy Minister of Postal Services, Sanath Jayasuriya shared these views;
“This is a very happy day in my life. The responsibility that I have assumed today is a long term journey with the Minister. First, I must say that as the Deputy Minister, I will carry out my responsibilities to the best of my abilities together with the Minister for the Ministry of Postal Services. The people of the Matara District made me first in the district by giving me the highest number of preferential votes. I am especially grateful to the people of the Matara District for having faith in me and bringing me to that position.”
Minister of Postal Services, Jeevan Kumaratunge expressed these thoughts;
“At a moment when we are steering the postal service in this country onto a new path and are making it more fruitful to the country. It is a great convenience for us, that Sanath Jayasuriya has assumed duties as deputy minister and filled the vacant seat of the deputy minister.”
Minister of Mass Media and Information, Keheliya Rambukwella shared these views;
“Sanath Jayasuriya came from a rural village and has now become a global player. His journey was beautiful and hard. It was not easy for him to get there. Politics is not a 100 metre sprint. Politics is a marathon. It is very difficult to keep running this marathon. When the baton is passed, people trip. They trip up. There is a tale in Parliament about how you should take a look behind you before you raise your right foot. The moment you are on one leg, they will trip you up. It is the same in sport. We have experience with this. I believe that he will take this experience into the postal service and be a great source of strength and support to my friend Minister Jeevan Kumaratunge.”
A memento was also presented to the Deputy Minister at this occasion.
