May 11, 2009: The Department of Immigration and Emigration has deported six foreign nationals during this year from Sri Lanka for acting in a manner detrimental to the country.

P. B. Abeykoon, Controller of Immigration and Emigration said that those foreigners were deported following investigations carried out based on information received by the Department.

He went on to say that reports on those foreigners had also been submitted by security and intelligence sources.

These foreigners hailed from several European countries including Britain.

According to the Immigration and Emigration Controller, the actions of all foreigners arriving in the island would be strictly monitored by a special investigation team of the Department.

He added that any information pertaining to such acts that could be deemed as suspicious, could be channeled through Telephone Number 0115-329380.

Sri Lanka on Saturday deported Channel 4 correspondent Nick Paton-Walsh, along with the producer Bessie Du and cameraman Matt Jasper from the country. They left the island yesterday.
