July 31, 2010: The Ceylon Electricity Board introduced its first net meter system on Thursday in Colombo.
The first net meter system was declared open by the Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka.
This system allows electricity consumers to sell additional electricity generated from their own systems, such as solar power.
The minister said that the system would be introduced to government offices where they could install solar power generating systems.
