July 31, 2010: Government has decided to pay Rs. 750,000 as compensation to an individual who was infected by H.I.V. through a blood transfusion 20 years ago.
According to the Ministry of Health, this individual had received the blood transfusion from a government hospital 20 years ago when he was just a child.
It was later revealed that the transfusion had been carried out during an emergency, and the blood had not been tested.
The Ministry added that after taking the situation into consideration, the government had decided to compensate him.
