July 20, 2010: The young woman, rescued from drowning in the Bambalapitiya sea and admitted to Kolubowila hospital yesterday, had disappeared in the evening.
The nurses who visited the ward around 5pm yesterday to administer treatment to her had reported the the woman had gone missing.
The hospital authorities had informed the police on the new development.
Yesterday, a police constable who had noticed the 22-year-old struggling in the water, had acted swiftly to rescue her.
Following first aid, the woman had been brought to the Kalubowila teaching hospital.
According to Dr. Anil Jasinghe, the woman had disappeared when the doctors were attending to other patients.
Police noted that another woman, who claimed to be the rescued woman's mother, had also been at her bedside.
The Kalubowila hospital police have informed the disappearance to the Bambalapitiya police as well.
