June 28, 2010: Rosy Senanayake, the United National Party parliamentarian has urged the government to table the agreement signed with the Wizcaraft company to hold the IIFA Awards in Sri Lanka.
Addressing a media briefing yesterday, Ms. Senanayake said that with such a colossal sum of money, the country's children could be fed with a glass of milk for three whole years.
“At a time when Rs. 27 billion is being spent on education and at a time when the loans that have to be settled amounts to more than Rs. 800 billion, this agreement has been signed between a private company known as Wizcraft and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
“According to this agreement, even before the IIFA event took place, US$ 2,000 had to be paid. Among other expenditure were 350 round the world air tickets on Business Class, and another 400 air tickets, making it 730 tickets altogether.
“In addition, duty free import of all items used in the show and the facility to use over a thousand vehicles, etc., etc.
“With this colossal sum of money, we could provide a glass of milk to all our children for three years and for all those under five years of age, a glass of milk for five years.
“If the government claims that these facts and figures are false, I challenge them to table the agreement signed with the Wizcraft company in parliament,” said parliamentarian Rosy Senanayake.
