Sri Lanka’s Most Unbelievable 'The Voice Teens' Journey Ends in Victory

COLOMBO (News 1st); At just 17 years old, Janiru Kavinda of Delgoda has rewritten the script of Sri Lankan reality television, proving that sometimes all it takes is a single chance to change a life forever.

In a season that began with thousands of hopeful young voices, Janiru's story seemed unlikely from the very beginning. During the Blind Auditions of The Voice Teens Sri Lanka Season 3, only one coach turned his chair for him. In a competition where multiple chair turns are often seen as a sign of frontrunners and future stars, Janiru advanced with just a single vote of confidence.

But what appeared to be a disadvantage quickly became the foundation of one of the most inspiring journeys the programme has ever witnessed.

Eight months later, that same contestant stood beneath the brightest lights of the Grand Finale stage at Stein Studios in Ratmalana and achieved what had never been done before in Sri Lanka. The young singer who received only a one-chair turn at the Blind Auditions fought his way through every stage of the competition and ultimately emerged as the winner of The Voice Teens Sri Lanka Season 3.

Behind the trophy is a young dreamer from Delgoda who never stopped believing.

A Grade 12 student at Bandaranayake Vidyalaya, Gampaha, Janiru entered the competition carrying a dream that had lived within him for years. Performing on The Voice Teens stage was something he had long imagined, and when the opportunity finally arrived, he embraced it with determination, discipline and heart.

His coach repeatedly described Janiru's greatest strength as more than just vocal ability. According to him, Janiru possesses a powerful voice capable of conveying deep emotion, touching listeners and creating a genuine connection through music. It was that rare ability to make audiences feel every word he sang that gradually transformed him from an outsider into a serious contender for the title.

Throughout the competition, Janiru consistently delivered performances that showcased both technical skill and emotional maturity beyond his years. Yet one song stood above the rest.

His coach identified "Aala Adawwa" as Janiru's strongest performance of the entire season, a song that perfectly captured the emotion, power and artistry that defined his journey. Fittingly, Janiru returned to perform the same song during the Grand Finale, delivering a performance that reflected how far he had come since the Blind Auditions.

His victory was not built overnight.

Thousands of young talents from Sri Lanka's Alpha Generation, aged between 13 and 18, stepped forward with dreams of becoming the next Voice Teens champion. Following auditions, approximately 160 contestants earned places in the Blind Auditions. From there, the competition unfolded through internationally recognised stages including the Battles, Knockouts, Super Knockouts and Live Shows.

With each passing round, more contestants fell away. The challenges became tougher, the expectations greater and the pressure more intense. Yet Janiru continued moving forward, surviving every hurdle placed before him.

By the time the Grand Finale arrived, only four contestants remained.

Representing Team Yasas was Seniru Dilmith from Avissawella. Representing Team Sanka was Janiru Kavinda from Delgoda. Representing Team Yohani was Thasindu Nimesh from Godakawela, while Shrinath Pathum from Tissamaharama carried the hopes of Team Raini.

Four voices. One crown.

When the final votes were counted, it was Janiru's name that echoed across the stage.

For his parents, Chamila Priyadarshani and S. Priyashantha, the moment represented years of support, sacrifice and encouragement. For his school and hometown, it was a moment of pride. For Janiru himself, it was the realization of a dream that began long before a single chair turned around.

Yet for the newly crowned champion, the victory is not the destination.

Janiru hopes to pursue higher studies in music and contribute fresh ideas, new sounds and vibrant creativity to Sri Lanka's music industry. He wants to help shape a new era of music while creating opportunities for future generations of young artists.

His story will be remembered not merely because he won, but because of how he won.

In a competition where first impressions often define expectations, Janiru Kavinda proved that one chair turn can be enough. One opportunity can be enough. One unwavering belief can be enough.

And for a young boy from Delgoda, that single moment of faith became the beginning of an unforgettable triumph.
