Rs. 3 Billion Allocated For El Niño Crop Damage Compensation

COLOMBO (News1st); The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board says compensation payments for farmers who suffered crop damage due to the El Niño conditions will begin today.

Chairman Premasiri Jasinghe Arachchi said 3 billion rupees has been allocated for the compensation programme.

Accordingly, compensation for crop damages in the Polonnaruwa District is scheduled to be credited to farmers’ bank accounts today.

He added that compensation payments for affected farmers in the other districts will be completed by the 15th of September.
