The ‘Navodayapuram’ housing project, constructed for 50 families who lost their homes in landslides in the Badulla, Haldummulla, Poonagala and Kabaragala areas in 2023, will be handed over to the beneficiaries today.
It will take place under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
According to the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, each house is valued at nearly Rs. 3.2 million and comprises two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and bathroom.
Under the project, 50 fully furnished houses, each measuring 550 square feet, have been constructed on 10-perch plots of land for the affected families.
Each household will also receive essential household and kitchen appliances worth approximately Rs. 175,000.
The families had been living in a tea factory that had remained closed for nearly three and a half years, following the landslide in Kabaragala on March 19, 2023.
