Taiwan says US has reiterated its ‘clear and firm’ support

The US has “repeatedly reaffirmed” its support for Taiwan, cabinet spokeswoman Michelle Lee has said in remarks to reporters.

The status of Taiwan is among the most sensitive issues being discussed at the Trump-Xi summit.

While Taiwan’s government considers itself the head of a defacto sovereign state, Beijing claims the self-governing island of 23 million people as an integral part of its territory.
