3 Prison guards Arrested Over Welikada Inmate Death: Suspects To Be Produced Before Court Today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Three prison guards have been arrested in connection with the death of an inmate who was serving a sentence at the Welikada Prison.

Police say that the suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Court this afternoon.

The inmate in question passed away yesterday after falling ill following an altercation with prison officers. The deceased has been identified as a 40-year-old resident of Borella.

Meanwhile, another prison inmate died recently following an assault within the Magazine Prison.

The Department of Prisons stated that a prison jailor and four guards have been arrested and remanded in connection with that incident.
