COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) highlights that the GDP per capita in the economy has exceeded the $5,000 threshold for the first time in the country’s history,
This milestone was revealed in the Annual Economic Review for 2025.
Accordingly, the GDP per capita for the year 2025 stands at $5,003.
The data in the Economic Review showed a significant upward trajectory over the past year - from $4,546 in 2024 to $5,003 in 2025 marking an annual increase of $457.
Prior to this, the highest recorded GDP per capita was in 2018, recoreded at $4,372.
This milestone marks a stark contrast to 2022, the year Sri Lanka was officially declared economically bankrupt.
During th economic crisis, the GDP per capita plummeted to $3,464.
The current figure of GDP per capita income represents a robust recovery from those lows.
