Expert Committee Appointed: National Colleges of Education Set for Major Reforms

COLOMBO (News 1st); An expert committee has been appointed to enhance standards and restructure the National Colleges of Education.

The committee is chaired by Professor Liyanage Amarakeerthi of the University of Peradeniya, and includes Professor Arosha Adikaram of the University of Colombo, Professor Poobalasundaram Iyengaran of the University of Jaffna, and P.A.D. Anil, a retired Senior Lecturer from the Sri Lanka Teacher Education Service.

It has been tasked with recommending measures to strengthen the overall institutional framework of the National Colleges of Education, including improvements to infrastructure.

The committee will also focus on key areas such as governance, sustainability, the learning environment, assessment methodologies, and the relationship between teachers and students.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, emphasized the need to create an environment within these institutions that nurtures teachers with strong capabilities and leadership qualities, in line with the government’s education transformation goals.

She made these remarks during a discussion with members of the newly appointed expert committee.
