Crime Detection and Investigations Rise by 50–60% – IGP

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya, says that criminal investigations and crime detection have increased by 50 - 60 percent.

He made these remarks while attending the opening ceremony of the Polpitiya Police Station yesterday.

The IGP further stated that the highest number of weapons were seized during raids conducted last year, which is double the amount recorded in 2024. 

He also noted that drug raids carried out in 2025 were three times higher compared to those conducted in 2024.
