COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s turbulent weather continues to wreak havoc, now disrupting air travel.

Two international flights scheduled to land at Bandaranaike International Airport (Katunayake) were diverted due to strong winds and adverse conditions, according to the airport’s Duty Manager.

One flight was rerouted to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, while the other was diverted to Trivandrum International Airport in India.

The diversions come as the island battles heavy rains, floods, and gale-force winds that have already crippled road and rail transport and caused widespread power outages. A flight from Muscat to BIA was diverted to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport.  Another flight from Kuala Lumpur to BIA was rerouted to Trivandrum International Airport in India.
