COLOMBO (News 1st); As Sri Lanka battles the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) reports that 66% of power outages have been restored, bringing partial relief to thousands affected by flash floods and landslides.
Noel Priyantha, Deputy General Manager of the CEB, confirmed that restoration work is ongoing despite severe challenges posed by continuous rain and strong winds.
A critical failure persists on the Rantambe–Mahiyanganaya 132 kV transmission line, which remains inaccessible due to adverse weather.
This disruption has left Mahiyanganaya, Ampara, and Vavunativu without power, as electricity supply from key substations is still down.
It is believed that full restoration may take longer if conditions worsen, urging residents to exercise caution and conserve energy where possible.
