COLOMBO (News 1st); Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has declared that Sri Lanka’s digital future will be built not just on technology, but on people.

Speaking at the National Al Expo & Conference 2025, she emphasized that human capacity is the foundation of digital transformation, and unveiled a sweeping national strategy to align education with the country’s ambitious digital economy goals.

By 2030, Sri Lanka aims to grow its digital economy to USD 15 billion, contributing 12% to GDP, generating USD 5 billion in digital exports, and cultivating a skilled workforce of 200,000 professionals.

“As Minister of Education, I recognise that digital transformation depends on people. Without human capacity, technology remains only potential,” said the Prime Minister.

To ensure no child is left behind, the government is conducting assessments across every province and school. The reforms include:

Digital literacy, coding, and STEAM education from early grades
AI, robotics, and climate science integrated into curricula
Smart classrooms, devices, and trilingual e-learning platforms
Digital pedagogy training for 100,000 educators
A new Teacher Excellence Framework to elevate teaching standards
National digital ID system to manage the education sector efficiently

These reforms are designed to empower Sri Lanka’s youth with the skills needed to thrive in a global digital economy, while also attracting international investors and tech innovators to a country ready to lead in digital transformation.
