COLOMBO (News 1st); In a coordinated maritime rescue operation, the Sri Lanka Navy successfully rescued four Indian fishermen who were stranded at sea, following the reported disappearance of their fishing vessel due to adverse weather conditions.
According to a statement from the Navy, the rescue was initiated after the Mumbai Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre alerted its counterpart in Colombo about the missing Indian fishing boat several days ago.
The vessel had reportedly encountered severe weather while operating in waters close to Sri Lanka.
Responding swiftly, the Sri Lanka Navy launched a special search and rescue mission, which led to the discovery and safe recovery of the four fishermen.
The individuals were found aboard the distressed vessel in Sri Lankan territorial waters and were brought to safety without incident.
The rescued fishermen are residents of Minicoy Island, part of India’s Lakshadweep archipelago.
