COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo High Court Judge Pradeep Abeyratne ordered that the pre-trial conference in the case against Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, related to the controversial Krrish transaction, be held on September 26.

The case, filed by the Attorney General, accuses Rajapaksa of misappropriating Rs. 70 million received from India’s Krrish Group, allegedly intended for the promotion of rugby in Sri Lanka. The funds are said to have been used improperly, prompting legal action.

During Friday’s (27) proceedings, Deputy Solicitor General Wasantha Perera, appearing for the prosecution, informed the court that certain documents requested by the defense would be submitted at a later date.

Representing the defense, President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis stated that the defense would declare its position once all relevant documents had been received.

After reviewing the submissions, Judge Abeyratne scheduled the pre-trial conference for late September.

The case comes from investigations conducted by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID), which previously presented findings before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court. Rajapaksa was arrested in connection with the case and later released on bail.
