Student activists arrested over protest march to be produced in court

COLOMBO (News 1st); The two student activists who were arrested during the protest march organized by the Students Union of the University of Peradeniya, are scheduled to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (06).

Police fired tear gas and water cannons on Tuesday (05) evening to disperse the protest march, opposite the University of Colombo.

A clash was reported with the Police, and Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Attorney Nihal Thalduwa said two Police officers were injured in the clash and they were admitted to the Police Hospital for treatment.

The protest aimed to address the erosion of fundamental rights that impact the general population, including access to free education and healthcare.
