COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Minister of Power and Energy said that the electricity tariff for those who use less electricity will likely be reduced by 27%.
Speaking to a gathering in Nawalapitiya, the Minister said that a tariff revision of 27% was proposed for those using 0–90 units of electricity per month.
The Minister said the reason for the extended power cuts experienced in 2022, was not the fault of then-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, but the failure to construct power plants since 2015, to meet the growing energy demand in Sri Lanka.
He proposed for an electricity tariff reduction during the June, and January reviews.
