Finance Minister necessary for IMF talks - CBSL Chief

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said at a discussion held in Colombo held on Monday (23) that a Minister of Finance is essential to successfully conclude negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He said currently he's leading the technical level discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"But only the parliament can decide on the country's fiscal policy. The parliament has to agree on that. For that, a finance minister must be appointed and the proposal has to be tabled to Parliament through him. Although it not an issue now, we need a finance minister in the future," he stressed.
