100,000 MT of maize to be imported for animal products

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has granted permission to import around 100,000 MT of maize for animal feed production, said State Minister of Livestock, Farm Promotion and Dairy & Egg Related Industries D. B. Herath on Thursday (3).

The Minister stated with these imports the prices of animal products are expected to decrease.

Accordingly, the price of an Egg which was Rs.25/- has dropped to Rs.20/- and the price of Chicken is also expected to drop, he said.

State Minister D.B Herath stated that excise duty relief was provided for the importation of animal feed.

In the meantime, the Chairman of All Island Poultry Association Sri Lanka Ajith S. Gunasekera told News 1st that the demand for eggs and chicken has also dropped.
