Woman jumping from CID building: Court to call witnesses

COLOMBO (News 1st); Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage on Thursday (13) ordered the Fort Police to call evidence in open court on the 21st of January regarding the death of a woman who fell from the fifth floor while being detained by the CID.

Accordingly, the evidence of a group including her husband, elder brother and those who were present at the time of arrest are to be summoned before Court.

The woman was arrested by the CID in Kalubowila area on the afternoon of January 10th.

Police stated that she was taken to the washroom on the 5th floor the next morning, when she jumped out of the window.

The deceased was identified as a 46 year old woman residing in Niyadagala, Pannipitiya.

Police further stated that she was arrested by the CID in connection with a financial fraud of Rs. 68 million.

Meanwhile, Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage ordered that those present at the Kalubowila location where she was arrested as well as officers from the CID be summoned for evidence.
