COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Excise Department has granted permission for W.M. Mendis & Co Ltd, owned by Arjun Aloysius of the Perpetual Group, to recommence operations on producing liquor.

Excise Department Spokesperson Kapila Kumarasinghe speaking to News 1st said permission was granted to recommence operations under strict conditions.

W.M. Mendis & Co Ltd lost its license to produce liquor in 2018 for failing to pay taxes due to the state.

W.M. Mendis & Co Ltd was allowed to recommence operations on Friday (02) based on an agreement reached with the Excise Department to settle the due taxes with delay charges within a certain time period.

W.M. Mendis & Co Ltd is one of the oldest players in Sri Lanka's liquor industry and was issued three licenses by the Excise Department of Sri Lanka for two production plants and a distillery in Moragalla and Welisara.
