Nursing trade unions will go on sick leave for two days

COLOMBO (News 1st); Nursing trade unions will go on sick leave on Thursday (01) & Friday (02) citing several demands.

These trade unions are the Public Services United Nurses Union (PSUNU), Government Nursing Officers' Association, and the All Ceylon Nursing Employees Union.

Among their demands are the Rs. 15,000/- overnight travel & accident allowance promised to them in 2015, Promotions, and converting nursing colleges into universities.

'We had 11 rounds of talks with the authorities over these demands, however, these talks were limited to notes. If the sick leave trade union action does not work, we will go on continuous strike from 07th July,' said Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero, the Chairperson of the Public Services United Nurses Union (PSUNU).

This trade union action will not take place at any hospital that is used for COVID-19 treatment and care, said Saman Rathnapriya, the Chairperson of the Government Nursing Officers' Association.

However, nursing officers attached to 1103 hospital will go on sick leave for 02 days, he added.
