17 deaths and over 270,000 affected due to inclement weather

COLOMBO (News 1st): Landslides and floods claimed 17 lives and affected 271,110 people across 10 districts, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said. Accordingly, 88 Divisional Secretariats in 10 districts were affected as a result of the prevailing inclement weather. The water levels of Kalu, Kelani, Gin rivers, and the Attanagalu-Oya that spilled over as a result of heavy showers are gradually receding, S.P.C. Sugeeshwara, the Director at the Department of Irrigation told News 1st on Tuesday (Jun. 08). The Landslide Early Warning issued for several Divisional Secretariats of the Colombo, Gampaha, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura continues to remain in effect.
